My Alex the Vampire Slayer [info]apocabigbang fic is plotted, yay! It will ... probably end up being significantly longer than the 10,000 word minimum, but that's okay; I still have three months to write it, after all. And I'm totally excited about it, which is awesome. Now if only the Disney RPF fic would come as easily.

In other news, Greek had its mid-season finale last night, and I'm going to miss it so much. But, thoughts on the episode:

And now we have to wait until January for new episodes, which sucks. (Though chances I'll rewatch the series before then are probably high, ngl.)

Happy birthday, [info]rogueslayer452! I'm not sure if it's the 16th yet for you, but it is here, and, I'm actually early/on time with birthday wishes for once! So, this is a good day.

I hope you have an awesome birthday, whatever you do with it. And if you'd like a fic or whatever, just leave me a prompt :D

Okay, so - briefly! - Glee:

And, okay, I'm just going to say it here, and get it out of the way: I ship Puck/Quinn. A slightly less brief - defense? Explanation? )

[wowp] make it happen
So, I finally managed to watch the new episode of Wizards Of Waverly Place! My copy was totally out of sync, which was a little distracting, but I managed to have thoughts.

Wizards Of Waverly Place )

This is the first time I've actually had new WOWP canon, since I got into fandom after the movie came out. It's very exciting.
[misc] t-shirt
So, apparently this fic is going to be even longer than the last one. I still remember when the longest fic I'd written was 3000 words.

A couple of TV reaction posts, because I do occasionally still pay attention to stuff that isn't Wizards of Waverly Place:

Glee )

Greek )

More briefly, and hopefully non-spoilery: Ryan and Esposito continue to be totally married on Castle (and possibly my all-time boyslash OTP? Like, I know I don't have a lot of those, but these guys, I ship them so very hard ♥). And I'm just going to assume that whenever Gwen and Morgana weren't onscreen in Merlin, they were off shagging like bunnies, y/y?
4th Apr, 2009 02:51 pm - All BSG, all the time
[bsg] hardcore superstar
Okay, it's officially surprising how reinvested in BSG I am now that the show is over. Which is odd, because it's not like I really loved the finale. (There's definitely something about imperfect canon sources and fannish impetus, particularly since the character I'm most in love with right now is Boomer.)

I rewatched the miniseries a week or so ago for [info]bsg_refrak, and then I watched all of season one (because I love that season, like, unreservedly), and then today, I watched the miniseries again. And, I don't know, I really feel like the miniseries gets better and better every time you watch it - like, the first time I watched it, I remember it felt like it went for about six hours, and was just incredibly dense (but awesome). But after the ... fourth or fifth time through, it feels really well-balanced and easy to watch and not too heavy at all. Which, in retrospect, may have something to do with the fact that I first started watching BSG after starting SGA ;)

Anyway, I was going to watch season one - again - but I decided I felt like watching season 4.0 instead, since I now have it on DVD and everything. So I'm doing that. It's actually a lot of fun, especially since I can marathon it now; I didn't get to do that the first time through, and it's definitely the way I prefer to watch my TV shows.

What I should be doing, of course, is working on my Big Bang(s), but, I don't know. I'm really procrastinating on that, plus they're just ... not BSG. I have very little time for things that aren't BSG right now. I'm feeling almost monofannish, actually, which is something I've never felt before. It's new, and kind of exciting (if somewhat inconvenient, re: the aforementioned Big Bangs).

I still need to type up some episode reactions (man, I haven't done those - at least, for non-BSG shows - for ages, but Greek came back this week, and I am so freaking excited about that), plus a couple of BSG meta posts I still really want to write. And vid recs, because I really believe, in a totally subjective and biased fashion, that BSG fandom has the best vids ever. And my March fic roundup (of all of two fics), which I will post shortly. At least my miniseries(-ish) picspam is nearly done.

Plus, I am kind of having vid thoughts. Which, I know, I say that from time to time and inevitably never follow through. But this time, I actually have all the footage already sourced, which is usually my biggest problem - like, I run out of vidding momentum before I even really get started on a vid, which sucks. So, who knows. One day, I swear, I will actually make a vid, and not just parts of one.

Also, it's 3pm and haven't slept, so - maybe I should get on that?

ETA: Dude, what's going on at Kindreds? (I mean, I guess I could check it out myself, but.) I haven't visited there for ages - I should really rectify that, once I get it together enough to write some Helo/Athena fic.

I really can't believe BSG is over. I wasn't caught up on it until tonight, but now I've watched the final episodes, so ...

[info]bsg_refrak. What better way to deal with the show ending than to start it all over again? The rewatch of the miniseries is beginning this week, and god, the nostalgia! Like, do you remember when Helo wasn't going to be brought back for the series? (No, seriously.) Or when Lee and Adama didn't get along? When Adama and Roslin didn't get along? When Kara and Lee were Starbuck and Apollo? When the entire series was so full of promise, and we had no idea how it was all going to end up? Come along for the ride!

I've been really slow in catching up with TV, but I finally got caught up with Gossip Girl :D

Gossip Girl; also The O.C. season four spoilers )

Also, I was thinking about how I'm really loving the second season of Gossip Girl, and I was trying to remember what other second-season show it reminded me of in terms of improvement, and realised it was Chuck. Which is funny, but also, after the way The O.C. steadily declined over the course of seasons two and three, I think it shows that Josh Schwartz has really learned something. And given that season four of The O.C. was one of my favourite TV seasons ever, and possibly one of the best transitions of a high school show to the year post-graduation, I'm cautiously optimistic about season three of Gossip Girl, should it continue.
21st Jan, 2009 11:59 am - Veronica Mars FBI
[misc] t-shirt
Since I've been recently getting back into Veronica Mars fandom, and with news about the possible movie coming out, it seemed like as good a time as any to (re)watch the Veronica Mars FBI trailer. And ... I mean, on one hand, I'm glad they never made it. Because it's not Veronica Mars; it's a spin-off of Veronica Mars, only it happens to star the same person. And given the bulk of season three, I can't quite make myself believe it would have been really good. But on the other hand, it did have potential (and I'm an eternal optimist), and there were things I really liked about it.

In which I talk about the promo, so there be spoilers )

And, god help me, I'm really trying to resist writing fic for it. Because ... it's based on ten minutes of a promo that never became anything, that gives us only the barest glimpse of new characters and relationships, and that has exactly zero potential audience. And yet.

If there's anyone who hasn't seen it, though, and wants to, here you go. It's worth a glimpse, I think, if only to see what might have been (for better or for worse). And, yes, I am glad they're not going the FBI route with the movie - there'd be too much backstory for non-fans, too much new information for fans, and in two hours with such a huge shift in the original premise, I really don't think there would have been much point to it. The appeal of making a movie out of a cancelled series, after all, is that it allows you to wrap up loose ends and play a little longer in the world, and Veronica Mars FBI: The Movie would have done neither. I am trying to convince myself to be cautiously optimistic about the actual movie they might make, though.
18th Jan, 2009 04:44 pm - Go see the wizard
[vm] lamb/veronica
So, they're making a Veronica Mars movie? Maybe? I would be really, really excited about this if Mars, Bars had never happened. Because season three spoilers are spoilery )

But if the movie does actually get made, of course I'm going to see it. And squee about it. But, sigh.

In other VM news, I've written over 21,000 words of the What Goes Down sequel in five days, and my thumb is bruised, because I stupidly write everything longhand. And I don't want to stop writing, but at this point, it's causing me actual pain. Like, I took painkillers so I could keep writing, even though the universe was sending me clear signals to stop. (The pain was probably one. My brand new pen running out in less than a day and the fact that I went through four more trying to find one that worked might have been another.) Probably not my best idea ever, but, what are you going to do?

Um, this post was supposed to have a point, I think? Possibly that Lamb is awesome, which I'm pretty sure you already knew I thought.

Now, I think I'm going to weigh up the merits of not causing myself permanent injury vs WRITING YAY.

Battlestar Galactica )
15th Jan, 2009 07:23 am - It's only just a crush, it'll go away
[vm] acceptable in the eighties
TV is back on! I haven't actually started watching it yet, but there's a new Legend of the Seeker I'm very excited about. And BSG comes back in a few days ...

All my holiday exchange fics have been finished and posted:

Summer In The City (Merlin - Arthur/Morgana - PG - 3173 words) In which there is a summer festival, Morgana indulges in a spot of matchmaking, and she and Arthur fight. A lot. Spoilers up to episode 1:8 - The Beginning Of The End. Written for [info]breakingbeads for [info]merlin_santa.

Are You Gonna Be My Girl (Farscape RPF - Ben Browder/Claudia Black - R - 3500 words) It's a good thing, he thinks, that John is supposed to be in love with Aeryn, or people might start asking questions. (aka. Five outfits Ben and Claudia wear, in varying degrees of ridiculousness.) Written for [info]sugargroupie for [info]yuletide.

Method Acting (Decipher Reflections From Reality) (One Tree Hill RPF - James Lafferty/Bethany Joy Galeotti - PG - 2694 words) Her life is measured out in almosts. (She almost took a risk, once, but it was only fiction.) Five times fiction and reality were almost the same thing. Written for [info]sugargroupie for [info]prettylightsfic.

So, yes, I ended up writing for the same person for Yuletide and Pretty Lights. And I could have written Ben/Claudia for both exchanges, but the Pretty Lights assignment came pretty much as I was just starting to rewatch One Tree Hill, so I decided to go for a little diversity instead. The Pretty Lights story ended up not being quite what I intended (it was supposed to be flirty and happy and fluffy, which it ended up being ... not so much), but I'm pretty happy with the way all my exchange fics turned out. And I'm very happy with what I received in return, so it was an excellent holiday ficathon season.

Even more exciting, apparently I've started writing Veronica Mars fic again:

Nice To Meet You Anyway (Veronica Mars - Casey/Veronica - PG-13 - 2462 words) Trust doesn't come that easily. Spoilers up to episode 1:9 - Drinking The Kool-Aid.

General Veronica Mars fic + fandom ramblings )

So I'm feeling very happily and productively fannish at the moment. Not to mention a couple of other fics I should be writing in Weeds and Skins, because I may be a lot of things, but lacking in new fandoms I am not. (OMG Tony/Effy! [info]falseeeyelashes, I blame you and your epic OTP picspam.)

So, I'm really not sure when I'm going to have time to get around to actually watching television, but I feel like I'm okay with that.
3rd Jan, 2009 06:08 pm - 5 favourite unrequited love stories
[misc] t-shirt
From [info]fannish5: List your 5 favorite unrequited love stories.

(Note: I may be taking a somewhat liberal interpretation of the prompt here. Basically, these are my favourite pairings that are, or were, some version of unrequited.)

Spoilers for Arrested Development, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Miss Match, The O.C., Weeds, and The Office )

So, basically, unrequited love stories are, like, a pretty big thing in television, but I had to stretch the prompt fairly liberally in order to answer it. Because, really, I'm not so much a fan of unrequited love. I mean, pairings where one person is really into the other, and then they pursue them and stuff? I'm all over. But pining is just ... really very much not for me, which is why I didn't include most of the major unrequited love whatevers in my fandoms. And I'm probably forgetting a bunch of pairings I really love, but I can live with that.

So, I watched the final two (leaked) episodes of SGA. More, I suspect, out of wanting to get them over and done with so I could part ways with the show for good, than out of any particular need to see them OMG RIGHT NOW. Vegas, Enemy At The Gate, and season five )
8th Dec, 2008 01:49 pm - When it's not love
[misc] t-shirt
Thing: I saw High School Musical 3! And it was awesome. And, okay, the theatre was mostly filled with giggling eight year old girls, but whatever. I laughed throughout, like, the whole thing (roughly equal parts amusement and affection), and there was singing and dancing and basketball and prom and graduation and Ryan being delightfully gay and an entire scene whose sole purpose, as far as I could tell, was to have everyone in the cast grope hug Gabriella. Anyway, that was pretty much the final part to my whole birthday week extravaganza, and I had a blast.

Also, while we were shopping beforehand, Jeremy asked me if I would want a High School Musical DDR-type game, and I was forced to admit that, yes, I really would want that. I'm not sure if I just turned twenty-five or twelve.

Thing 1: Vid insta-rec! (Now That I Can) Dance by [info]ladymajavader Legend of the Seeker, Richard/Kahlan. Richard tries to impress Kahlan with a combination of flying leaps, pervasive shirtlessness and funky new dance moves he learned just for her. But does she love him (now that he can dance)? I know fandom's collective attention is currently focused on a different cracky fantasy show, but I kind of love Legend of the Seeker beyond the telling of it. Even if you're not watching the show, I'd definitely recommend this vid, which is awesome and upbeat and dance-y and cracky and shirtless. Guh.

Thing 3: One Tree Hill!! ♥ Okay, so some of you might be questioning my fandom choices by now, but I refuse to care. I just finished season two, and oh, with Dan -> building on fire and Anders HOT UNCLE COOPER! and Nathan having, like, the best breakdown in the history of ever (where he goes to school because he threw his Playstation at the wall his Playstation broke, and his idea of punishing Haley is to paint the apartment pink and hang pictures of clowns, which is pretty much completely awesome) and crashing race cars and cracky AUs, and ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
30th Nov, 2008 01:07 am - When I grow up
[misc] t-shirt
1) My paid account expired, oh noes! I might have to think about renewing it as a birthday present to myself - I know I can't really afford it, but I really don't want to lose my icons :(

2) My birthday is in less than a week! I think I'm officially having one of those "what the hell am I doing with my life?" moments, because, yeesh. Why can't I magically know what I want to do when I grow up? (And why can't that day be very far in the future?)

3) More fic:

You And Me, We're A Front Page Story (Smallville - Clark/Lois - PG-13 - 4300 words) Top secret research. Undercover investigations. Close encounters of the physical kind. Just another day at the office. Spoilers up to episode 8:5 - Committed.

Written for [info]svgurl for the [info]12days_of_clois exchange, for the prompt "Clark and Lois previously avoiding their feelings and are forced to confront it; maybe they're trapped in a small space or something?" Which I basically used as an excuse to unload a bunch of cliches, because, hey, it's Smallville. And, okay, I may have stolen the 'posing as a temp' thing from an episode of Prison Break, but it makes me happy, and Lisa Lawson was a minor recurring character on Greek, which, again. It's Smallville, it can be crack if I say it is.

4) Progress is being made on the Sweet Charity fic. Which is due on my birthday, so I really want to get it finished early so I can relax and get wasted do nothing.

5) I have another new show! You guys, if you like fantasy shows at all, you should totally go watch Legend of the Seeker. It's not quite as crack-tastic as Merlin (well, not yet - it's produced by Sam Raimi, so it's really only a matter of time), but it's pretty and awesome and kind of epic in a cheesy sort of way. It's based on Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth novels, which I've never read, but it's perfect stock fantasy fare, and I really love Richard already. And it's got shippiness, and Bruce Spence, and Jay Laga'aia (who has serious thoughts on Play School, and is made of awesome), and if you ever watched Xena or Hercules, you should definitely check it out, because it's a lot of fun.

Oh, and if you need more convincing (or even if you don't), you should definitely watch [info]ladymajavader's vid I Love Rockin' Rahl, which is what convinced me to have a look at the show in the first place. Seriously shiny!

Turned on the TV tonight, and remembered why I never bother watching it any more. Channel Ten is currently airing The Office ... season three. At midnight on a Sunday. Before that, they also had an episode of The Daily Show - that already aired in New Zealand over a week ago.

So, we're really up to date, here.

Also, based on ads we saw while watching:

Channel Ten supports animals, children, beaches, Christmas, life, and Channel Ten.

Channel Ten is against alcohol, depression, diabetes, cancer, and AIDS.

Also, I love my assignment - I only matched on one fandom, but in most of my fandoms I kept my offers down to my OTP, which is exactly what my recipient asked for. So, yay! I really want to get started right away, even though I know I have other things I should be finishing first ...

My Yuletide letter will be coming soon, and I can't wait to start reading everyone else's :)
6th Nov, 2008 06:38 pm - Small Fandom Primer: Miss Match
[clueless] as if
Signed up for [info]yuletide! Two of my requests, however, were in fandoms I'm not sure anyone is going to offer - one, in particular, is not so much small or rare as it is nonexistent. And that sucks, because it's a fandom I love a lot. So, in the spirit of sharing the obscure fandom love, here's my Beginner's Guide To Miss Match (And Why You Should Totally Watch It).*

*Hint: Nathan Fillion

ETA: While this was put together specifically with Yuletide in mind, I think it serves as a fair primer for anyone open to watching a new show (I recommend it, obviously). Also, it's spoiler-free, except for casting.

Miss Match )

So, in conclusion? Miss Match is smart, funny, and engaging, with an awesome cast and crew, and great characters and relationships. It's short - great for Yuletide! - easily available if you know where to look, and the good news is that, despite cancellation, the series concludes in a satisfying arc, with an actual finale. So, seriously, what are you waiting for?
