4th Sep, 2009 09:55 am - August fic roundup
[clueless] as if
Fic writing was kind of sparse in August, but I did get one thing written:

Kinda Gay (One Tree Hill - Brooke/Peyton - PG-13 - 1103 words) How Brooke Davis learns that gay isn't a four-letter word (unless Bevin is spelling it).

I blame the dearth of real fic-related accomplishments partly on my absence in the first part of the month, and partly on doing other things - working on fanmixes, mostly, but also putting together some vid recs (that I should be posting soon) and starting an original fic project, which is way fun. And hunting down new and interesting forms of entertainment - Andromeda, which I'm not ashamed of (it's cheesy awesome, and I ♥ Rommie), and Wizards Of Waverly Place, which I kind of am. (But only kind of. Or not really. Whatever, I own my guilty pleasures.)

I also went bowling with my sister (belatedly) for her birthday, which was a lot of fun, and have officially booked a trip to New Zealand in January to see my mum, which should be awesome; the last time I saw her was in November, and I feel guilty about that. If only she weren't an international flight away. And if only I could actually afford to fly internationally.

Anyway, more fic should (hopefully) be forthcoming this month, and I'm planning on hosting another round of [info]remixthedrabble soon, before the holiday ficathon period gets well and truly underway. I usually sign up for one fandom-specific ficathon in addition to Yuletide and Pretty Lights - last year it was Merlin, the year before it was SGA - and honestly, right now I have no idea what that might be. Possibly Star Trek - [info]ladies1st is totally relevant to my interests - but I wouldn't mind doing something a little ... smaller fandom-related. Anyway, I look forward to being surprised :)
5th Aug, 2009 08:34 am - Brief hiatus
[misc] t-shirt
I'm going to be out of town for a week visiting my dad, and chances are my internet access will be sporadic at best. If you need to contact me in the meantime, email is probably your best bet, otherwise I'll be back on Tuesday.

And [info]squaringkarma, I promise I'll post your birthday fic when I get back :)
30th Apr, 2009 09:02 pm - I stood beneath an orange sky
[b&s] maybe it won't end
Wow, it feels like forever since I've properly updated. In case you're wondering why, it's for the same reason as always - I tripped over a new fandom. In this case, it's Brothers and Sisters, and, yeah. It's an angsty family melodrama, which really isn't my usual type of show, and yet ... I don't know, it's strangely addictive.

And, okay, it has Justin/Rebecca, which is the real reason I started watching. Don't act like you're surprised.

Briefly, in non-fannish news, technology apparently hates me. First, my desktop computer totally died, and it took us forever to find out what the problem was. It turned out to be the video card, which kind of sucks, because J was looking forward to me (eventually) getting a new computer so he could snag my video card and get rid of his old crappy one. Luckily, I only really use that computer for gaming, and we've put his video card in my computer so I can still do that, but it's a temporary fix.

And then, because apparently I wasn't done, I was ... erm, maybe fiddling with some files on my laptop, and I managed to erase the entire contents of my iTunes. I still have all my music, luckily, but everything else - all my playlists, including my list of potential vid songs, some awesome fanmixes (from other people), and a couple of fanmixes in progress (mine) - is totally gone. Sigh. I figure as long as nothing blows up in the next couple of days, I'm probably safe from further meltdowns.

More happily, today I submitted my postgrad uni application. I'm not sure when I'll find out whether I got in - I applied for mid-year entry, which means there might be limited places available - but I'm nervous and really hopeful right now.

Fannishly: [info]remixthedrabble is opening sign ups for its next round soon. I'm a huge fan of the challenge (and, okay, a co-mod), and it's a lot of fun; this round is going to be a drabble purist round, which means all remixes must be 100 words exactly. Which is a really awesome challenge, plus it means that, unlike other challenges, it's a relatively small time investment. So, go check out the community, and please think about signing up when the challenge goes live!

And Brothers and Sisters, because I am still capable of making TV reaction posts, I swear: spoilery for the latest episode )

I really might have to write that Kevin/Julia(/Scotty) thing. Except for the fact that I have a million fic obligations right now and absolutely no time. And two big bangs due in roughly a month or so, which ... I won't lie. If we can keep this just between us, dear flist and assorted lurkers, they are not nearly as far progressed as they should be. At all. So the next month is either going to be very busy, or suddenly free right up, depending on whether or not I think I can actually finish them. Like, I don't doubt that I could finish them, I'm just not particularly invested in either of them right now as much as I need to be in order to do that. I might have to put them on hold? But then I'd feel majorly guilty about signing up and not delivering.

Since I decided to write Brothers and Sisters for [info]femgenficathon, though, that seems to be going swimmingly. At least something is.
4th Feb, 2009 02:16 am - Porn battle!
[misc] t-shirt
I ended up writing three fics for [info]oxoniensis' Porn Battle VII, none of which fit into a single comment. Um, oops? But I did have a lot of fun, plus I got to practice writing smut. So, yay!

Elevator Love Letter (Gossip Girl - Jack/Blair - NC-17 - 1335 words) She's well bred, cultured, and she has a good education. It's not that hard. Spoilers up to episode 2:15 - Gone With The Will.

Picking Winners (Veronica Mars - Lamb/Veronica - NC-17 - 2576 words) Who wanted to be indoors studying when the alternative was spending an hour or two watching the fine men of the Balboa County Fire Department? Spoilers up to episode 2:13 - Ain't No Magic Mountain High Enough.

Try This Trick And Spin It (Veronica Mars - Lamb/Veronica - NC-17 - 3077 words) "Veronica Mars is smarter than me." Spoilers up to episode 3:12 - There's Got To Be A Morning After Pill.

Two days until J and I go up to Sydney for his brother's wedding, which is turning into a complete mess. Well, not the wedding part, but the getting up there part. His parents are (supposedly) organising everything, and ... well, let' just say it's a good thing they're not organising the actual wedding.
1st Jan, 2009 04:02 pm - Two Zero Zero Nine
[btvs] buffy
I was planning on doing a [info]yuletide recs post before the reveal, but I still have a bunch of fics I have to read, so that might have to wait. I do, however, want to strongly recommend the two fics written for me:

You Sent Me To Thailand (I Ended Up In France) (The Office RPF - B.J. Novak/Mindy Kaling - PG-13 - 3485 words) The true story of how BJ Novak and Mindy Kaling are totally over each other. For real. Featuring ficuses, matching underwear, Defamer, bad limericks, Brad Pitt, and much, much more.

Starting At Ohio State (The Office RPF - B.J. Novak/Mindy Kaling - PG - 2271 words) Real life has no characters. Real life has them. A year of moments between B.J. and Mindy.

Also, [info]comedychick! ♥ I got your card in the mail, thank you so much - that High School Musical thing you sent is awesome and so thoughtful, you're amazing.

I hope everyone on my flist had or is having an awesome New Year's Eve, and that 2009 is fantastic. Technically, my NYE was about sixteen hours ago, and I'm a little hungover now, but nothing too bad. We had a pretty quiet night; instead of going out, we decided to stay home and have a (fantasy) movie marathon. We watched Prince Caspian, Stardust, and Timeline, and were sufficiently drunk by the last one that it was ... well, okay, not quite bearable, but fun to mock. And today we still have The Colour Of Magic, which I didn't even know had been made into a film, so.

End of year fic posts, etc. coming soon.
8th Dec, 2008 01:49 pm - When it's not love
[misc] t-shirt
Thing: I saw High School Musical 3! And it was awesome. And, okay, the theatre was mostly filled with giggling eight year old girls, but whatever. I laughed throughout, like, the whole thing (roughly equal parts amusement and affection), and there was singing and dancing and basketball and prom and graduation and Ryan being delightfully gay and an entire scene whose sole purpose, as far as I could tell, was to have everyone in the cast grope hug Gabriella. Anyway, that was pretty much the final part to my whole birthday week extravaganza, and I had a blast.

Also, while we were shopping beforehand, Jeremy asked me if I would want a High School Musical DDR-type game, and I was forced to admit that, yes, I really would want that. I'm not sure if I just turned twenty-five or twelve.

Thing 1: Vid insta-rec! (Now That I Can) Dance by [info]ladymajavader Legend of the Seeker, Richard/Kahlan. Richard tries to impress Kahlan with a combination of flying leaps, pervasive shirtlessness and funky new dance moves he learned just for her. But does she love him (now that he can dance)? I know fandom's collective attention is currently focused on a different cracky fantasy show, but I kind of love Legend of the Seeker beyond the telling of it. Even if you're not watching the show, I'd definitely recommend this vid, which is awesome and upbeat and dance-y and cracky and shirtless. Guh.

Thing 3: One Tree Hill!! ♥ Okay, so some of you might be questioning my fandom choices by now, but I refuse to care. I just finished season two, and oh, with Dan -> building on fire and Anders HOT UNCLE COOPER! and Nathan having, like, the best breakdown in the history of ever (where he goes to school because he threw his Playstation at the wall his Playstation broke, and his idea of punishing Haley is to paint the apartment pink and hang pictures of clowns, which is pretty much completely awesome) and crashing race cars and cracky AUs, and ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
4th Dec, 2008 10:58 pm - She can come if she wants
[misc] t-shirt
I wrote fic! Maybe not the fic I was supposed to be writing, but whatever.

Finding Out True Love Is Blind (One Tree Hill - Nathan/Brooke/Haley - R - 2571 words) It happens in the girls' locker room, of all places, and all Haley can think is that she's suddenly become a cliché. Spoilers up to mid-season three.

Written for [info]talumin, who requested Nathan/Brooke/Haley fic for his birthday. Which, um, was in March, so this is unforgiveably late. But it's finally finished, and only a few months before I have to write another one. Hooray!

I was kind of stalled on this for ages, but a few days ago I sat down and wrote almost the entire thing in one sitting. Which was not so great for my hand or my back (possibly I should stop writing everything longhand?), but was pretty awesome nonetheless. This sudden burst of inspiration can probably be credited to three things:

a) My Brooke/Haley fic being recced on [info]crack_van. That fic was actually the catalyst for [info]talumin's request, and it's a fic I really love, so rereading it helped a lot.

b) My recent resurgence of One Tree Hill love. One of the reasons it took me so long to write this was because I really hadn't been into the show for a while, but the last few episodes (which have been a vast improvement over the beginning of the season), coupled with beginning a rewatch of season one, made me love it all over again.

c) Holiday ficathon deadlines. It's not like I'm dreading those, really, since I'm reasonably on top of everything, but they do make writing anything else seem like a fun deviation.

So, the fic is done, finally, and I'm totally excited, because it's my birthday tomorrow! I'm celebrating by giving out fics or other fannish goodies, so if you want to request something (please do!), just ask me here. I also plan on drinking ridiculous amounts of cheap, girly, fruity "champagne" and watching more One Tree Hill, and it's going to be awesome.
30th Nov, 2008 01:07 am - When I grow up
[misc] t-shirt
1) My paid account expired, oh noes! I might have to think about renewing it as a birthday present to myself - I know I can't really afford it, but I really don't want to lose my icons :(

2) My birthday is in less than a week! I think I'm officially having one of those "what the hell am I doing with my life?" moments, because, yeesh. Why can't I magically know what I want to do when I grow up? (And why can't that day be very far in the future?)

3) More fic:

You And Me, We're A Front Page Story (Smallville - Clark/Lois - PG-13 - 4300 words) Top secret research. Undercover investigations. Close encounters of the physical kind. Just another day at the office. Spoilers up to episode 8:5 - Committed.

Written for [info]svgurl for the [info]12days_of_clois exchange, for the prompt "Clark and Lois previously avoiding their feelings and are forced to confront it; maybe they're trapped in a small space or something?" Which I basically used as an excuse to unload a bunch of cliches, because, hey, it's Smallville. And, okay, I may have stolen the 'posing as a temp' thing from an episode of Prison Break, but it makes me happy, and Lisa Lawson was a minor recurring character on Greek, which, again. It's Smallville, it can be crack if I say it is.

4) Progress is being made on the Sweet Charity fic. Which is due on my birthday, so I really want to get it finished early so I can relax and get wasted do nothing.

5) I have another new show! You guys, if you like fantasy shows at all, you should totally go watch Legend of the Seeker. It's not quite as crack-tastic as Merlin (well, not yet - it's produced by Sam Raimi, so it's really only a matter of time), but it's pretty and awesome and kind of epic in a cheesy sort of way. It's based on Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth novels, which I've never read, but it's perfect stock fantasy fare, and I really love Richard already. And it's got shippiness, and Bruce Spence, and Jay Laga'aia (who has serious thoughts on Play School, and is made of awesome), and if you ever watched Xena or Hercules, you should definitely check it out, because it's a lot of fun.

Oh, and if you need more convincing (or even if you don't), you should definitely watch [info]ladymajavader's vid I Love Rockin' Rahl, which is what convinced me to have a look at the show in the first place. Seriously shiny!
21st Nov, 2008 03:39 am - Hiatus, part two

In a few hours, I'm leaving to go up to Byron Bay for the weekend. I won't have internet access up there, but if you need to get in touch for whatever reason you can leave me a comment or email me for when I get back on Sunday, and hopefully I'll be able to catch up with my friends list then. (Also my TV viewing and reaction posts, which have a backlog that is beyond ridiculous at this point.)

Why, yes, this is my "I'm going to see my dad" icon, thanks for asking ;)
[misc] t-shirt
I just had a Watchtower guy knock on my door who looked exactly like Shia LaBeouf. If Shia LaBeouf were an evangelical Christian. It also probably would have been more exciting if I wasn't in my pyjamas, but, still.

Oh, and I'm home. Yay :D Plane travel was awful, New Zealand was freezing, but I had a lot of fun, and it was great to see my mum again. Still catching up on TV I missed, and, um, I may have been convinced to start watching Merlin. Not like I need any more shows to watch. (On my last plane home, a little girl in my row started singing Happy Birthday. And I swear, the first thing I though was, "you can't sing Happy Birthday on television" - thank you, Sports Night. And then I remembered, oh, yeah, real life. So it's entirely possible I watch too much TV.)

Only a short break - I'm going to New Zealand for a week to visit my mum, who I haven't seen in over a year, so I'm very excited. I'm leaving tomorrow morning, and won't be back until next Sunday night; if you need to get in contact with me for whatever reason, I should have limited internet access, so you can email or leave me a comment, but I probably won't be checking my friends list, etc.

Anyway, wish me fun, and I'll be back on November 9th :D
14th Oct, 2008 02:43 am - What do I do here?
[misc] t-shirt
1) I'm ridiculously behind on my TV viewing, but brief reactions from the past week or so:

90210 )

Friday Night Lights )

Greek )

Grey's Anatomy )

Heroes )

The Office )

Private Practice )

Smallville )

2) Caught up on watching The Office, and, ♥. I do love Jim and Pam, but I've fallen completely head over heels for Ryan/Kelly. I just - I really don't know. But they are currently one of my very favourite ships, and I love them to death. Season five spoilers + speculation )

3) [info]remixthedrabble is currently open for sign ups! Sign up to be a remixee (to have your fics remixed) here, or to be a remixer (to remix someone else's fics) here, or both. I'm really looking forward to it, especially because, even though I have a million things to do at the moment, it's only a drabble or ficlet. Plus, remixes!

4) Trying to get as much as I can done before November (I'll be in New Zealand for a week to visit my mum, and then in Byron Bay for my dad's wedding), and work out what I can do now vs what I can take with me to do while I'm over there. Also, I'm finally writing stuff again, even if so far it's mainly ficlets/drabbles - I have my Sweet Charity fic to work on, plus a bunch of belated gift fics and a couple of late ficathon entries, but right now, I'm kind of zen about it; I know I'll finish what I have to, but I'm not giving myself a hard time about working on other things instead. Because, really, fandom is supposed to be fun, and if I start stressing I'm more likely to burn myself out than anything else. So, happy place.

5) I wrote fic!

Humuhumunukunukuapua'a (High School Musical RPF - Vanessa Hudgens/Ashley Tisdale - PG-13 - 193 words) Ashley's half sitting on her lap when her hand kind of slips and they laugh and then, there's kissing.

Culturally Explicit (The Office RPF - B.J. Novak/Mindy Kaling - PG-13 - 322 words) It's not like he hasn't met her parents before. Spoilers up to episode 3:6 - Diwali.

Jellicious (The Office - Ryan/Kelly - PG - 200 words) Usually, Ryan's pretty good at tuning Kelly out.

Quabity Assuance (The Office - Creed, Kelly - PG - 140 words) "You're in charge of quality assurance."

So, the house inspection we were supposed to have? Yeah, not so much with the happening. Apparently, the real estate agents tried to send someone else over to do it (who, or why, I have no idea), and then, they just ... didn't. I waited until about 8pm before giving up, putting on my pajamas, and getting dinner. We rescheduled for tomorrow, though, so.

Also, television:

Stargate Atlantis )

Gossip Girl )

One Tree Hill )

Sarah Connor Chronicles )

We have a house inspection coming up, which means the house is now really clean. Like, it's not completely spotless and empty, because we have a lot of stuff, but I kind of like having it all around - it makes the place feel very lived-in. Of course, that's not to say it wouldn't be nice to have a little more space, so that we could maybe have people stay over occasionally and have somewhere to put the dance mat, but I'll settle for it being clean.

Also, I watched Psych:

I'm back - did you miss me? Did you notice I was gone?

For anyone who's wondering, I spent the past four days visiting my dad in Rosebank and attending the Byron Bay Writers' Festival. Which means I haven't had internet access for four days, so if I've missed anything important or interesting, let me know.

What I did at the wrtiers' festival by Zhailei, age 24 )

Anyway. That was my weekend - how was yours? What did I miss? Catch me up!

V-Day gift: Stargate SG-1 ten season box set. (It's so shiny! It has a stargate on the front! I can has Stargate!)
V-Day plans: Watch Stargate SG-1. A lot.
V-Day result: Happy! :D

Okay, so I feel like I kinda fail as a girl at the moment, but I had fun. We did actually go through our DVD collection for romantic movies to watch, but I decided I'd rather watch Stargate. And there was beer.

Oh, well. At least it was boy-friendly.

Am finally back home - technically, we got in late last night, but we pretty much went straight to bed. Visiting family was fun, and probably the last time I'll get to visit my childhood home, so kinda bittersweet.

That'll teach me for leaving my computer during Christmas, though - it seemed like everything happened while I was away. The [info]prettylightsfic archive is open , [info]sga_santa fics have all been posted, and all but the final [info]sga_beya gifts are up. And, of course, there's [info]yuletide, which I didn't participate in, but plan on (slowly) making my way through the archive.

Guessing meme:

Tell me which exchange fics (in my case, [info]prettylightsfic, [info]sga_santa, and [info]sga_beya) you think I wrote. If you guess correctly, I'll write you a fic of your choosing.

Comments are screened, and I'd be really interested to know what people think I wrote (and potentially, how distinctive my writing style is).

And a few recs from [info]prettylightsfic:

Strange How Hard It Rains Now, Tahmoh Penikett/Grace Park, PG-13. Grace stood next to Tahmoh under the tarp, waiting for the real rain to stop so they could return to simulated rain in the forest that was currently Caprica. Written for me, and it's fantastic - makes me wish there was more BSG RPF that focused on people other than Katee, Jamie and Callum (not that they're not fun, too :D).

In Soviet Russia, Femslash Writes You, Kristen Bell/Hayden Panettiere, PG-13. Celebrities roleplaying. In a zoo. As spies. Absolutely as much fun as it sounds.

We Can Fix That, Ben Browder/Claudia Black, PG-13. Ben, Claudia and the morning after ... Hot and gorgeous, and just perfect.
22nd Dec, 2007 05:36 pm - Australia is OOC

Dude, what's with the cold, rainy Christmas? I don't mind bushwalking in the rain (though it's not ideal), but if I don't get to hang out by the pool one last time when I go home, I'm going to be pissed.

Finished my Christmas shopping (or at least, the part I needed to get done before Christmas). I still need something to get for my mum, and Jeremy's parents, and I wanted to buy Jeremy more gifts, but I'm broke. And I feel like I have a million things I have to get done before we leave tomorrow, though technically I can do some of them up in Sydney, as long as I can get computer time.

Mightygodking posted a rant about so-called "nice guys," which is definitely worth reading. My favourite part of the original diatribe came in the middle, and he answers it far more succinctly than I could:

You ignored the nice guy. You used him for emotional intimacy without reciprocating, in kind, with physical intimacy.

See, this is the part where I went “holy shit,” because normally in “I Used To Be A Nice Guy” type rants, this sentiment is only implied, a nasty little undercurrent of malicious envy and spite. But this guy comes right out and says it: if a guy acts friendly towards a girl, the girl has a moral duty to fuck him.

Seriously. All of which makes me very glad I found a good guy, not a Nice Guy. And also sums up the problem I have with a few characters in various fandoms, aka. Why Landry Kinda Creeps Me Out (though I haven't seen most of FNL S2 yet, so that could change).

Anyway, Merry Margaritamukkah, and good luck under the mistletoe :D
5th Dec, 2007 11:05 am - Happy Birthday To Me
[misc] t-shirt
It's officially my birthday! Well, over here, anyway. Going out for dinner tonight with my sister + the boys, which should be fun. Might have to go shopping first, though.

Quick pimp: [info]tielan is running a 12 Teylas Of Christmas fest for SGA. The aim is to produce some kind of fanwork (fic, graphics, art, vids, meta) about Teyla from the 1st to the 12th of January. You can sign up, or just post something on the day, and it should be very awesome, because more Teyla love is always a good thing.

I'll get birthday fics typed up and posted, if not today, then tomorrow.

Finished two out of three fic exchange stories. They aren't due until mid- to late December, so I'm feeling quite accomplished. I'll have to start on the last one, as well as my birthday gift fics, sometime later today/tomorrow. Also worry about paying rent, which is less fun. But I so rarely get things finished early (or even on time), so I'm really very happy right now.

Jeremy's dad just called him, and he asked to speak to me - just to wish me a happy Thanksgiving! He wasn't even sure that that's what you do on Thanksgiving (he asked), but I'm immensely touched that he did that; I'm not even American, but he knows that's part of my heritage, and that I celebrate it, and just, awww! And we're having dinner tomorrow, which I'm looking forward to. I love his parents.

So, happy Thanksgiving to those of you on my flist who are celebrating - I hope you have awesome pie and get to hang out with the people who mean the most to you.

Why yes, I am rewatching Battlestar Galactica from season one. Yes, I do wish there were more Helo/Sharon scenes on Caprica - I pretty much love everything about the pairing, but my favourite bits, hands down, are still them running from the Cylons and having guns and being all hot and heavy in the acid rain.

Also, I totally love Tom Zarek, but mostly because, Apollo! (And no, I've never seen the original series, but the point remains.)

Cally is awesome. Minor spoilers for the first two seasons )

I still need to finish watching season three, and make a bunch of rec posts for fics. And the Melbourne Cup is tomorrow, which I should care more about, since I'm actually in Melbourne now, but the weather's horrible and I have nothing to wear, anyway. But betting is always fun, even if I have to watch it at home.

I'm feeling really misanthropic right now. Blah. I really shouldn't go on message boards, like, ever; in small doses, they're okay, but too much and I start to realise that I don't really like people. Add in that it's 5am, my sleeping patterns are whacked, I've basically eaten crap today, I still need to email my dad and buy plane tickets for next weekend I can't afford right now, and I've finished reading the book series I was really enjoying, and I feel ... ick. I was in a good mood earlier, too.

Oh, well. I think I might reread The Immortal Prince and The Gods Of Amyrantha, and I'd really like to write, but I have a feeling I might have to sleep first. In fact, sleep is usually a good solution to 90% of my groundless mood problems, but I still have to talk myself into it, because apparently I'm five.
