Firstly, happy birthday to [info]crickets! I'm sorry this is so late, but I hope you had an awesome day :D

Secondly, wow, I have been totally absent the past few days. I haven't even been writing quite as much as I should have been, but I should probably do a fic check-in, anyway, since we're about three quarters of the way through November.

Exchange fics )

Other stuff )

My second [info]apocabigbang fic, and my [info]yuletide fic, are still sitting at zero, but I have a potential idea plotted out for the former, and a solid grasp on the latter. I finished my Fall Fandom Free-For-all (yay!) - on time, even (double yay!) - which makes two fics down out of the seven I was working on at the start of the month. And my [info]prettylightsfic assignment, while still unfinished, is at least past the minimum word count, so that's something.

All up, I've written almost 15,000 words this month on Stuff I'm Officially Supposed To Be Writing, and about 1000 words in unrelated ficlets; it's not exactly a record breaking word count, but at least it's progress.

It's a little late for a mid-month check-in, but whatever, I'm doing one anyway.

So. I don't want to jinx it, but the Fall Fandom Free-For-All fic is finally going the way it was supposed to. Already there have been things that could possibly qualify as wacky hijinks! A reboot was definitely the way to go, I think. (It's still a lot later than I intended to have it finished, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to work on To Wish Impossible Things as much as I wanted, but still. I'm just glad it's actually going somewhere now.)

I'm still keeping up with [info]wrisomifu, and in the past week I've made progress on four of the six fics I'm working on. So, yay.
[disney] selena
Seriously, what is with writing lately? My latest fic, which was initially so easy and effortless, has been dragging for the past week, and I just don't get it. Every time I wrote something, I'd have to go back and edit the crap out of it the next day, because it just was not working, and finally, I realised that the fic as a whole was not working - it was dragging, and not going in the direction I wanted it to, and that while it was ... not bad, exactly, nothing of any real importance was happening at all. For 5000 words. (And for that, I totally blame my lack of outline, which left me to wander off in all sorts of directions I hadn't intended. Oops.)

And finally, I realised that if the fic was giving me that much angst, maybe just pushing through it wasn't the best solution, after all. So I deleted it.

And - I mean, that was a lot of work for nothing, but also, it feels so good to be starting over with a blank slate that I don't regret my decision at all. I now have 600 words of shiny new fic, and have plotted, in some detail, the rest of the fic, so I'm fairly confident that huge sucking mess thing won't be happening again.

(This fic will be FUN, DAMMIT, even if I have to force it to be.)

I got my [info]yuletide and [info]prettylightsfic assignments, yay! Which is to say: OMG YULETIDE ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥. You guys, I am SO EXCITED about my holiday ficathons, I can't even. (And I've even started writing my [info]prettylightsfic fic, I AM SO ON TOP OF THINGS.)

In case you're looking for them, my [info]prettylightsfic letter is here, and my [info]yuletide letter is here. And, okay, I realise that they are insanely long, so I'm sorry for that! But basically, they are just ridiculously rambly ways of saying that I will love anything written for me, so.

I am so psyched about my assignments, I'm suddenly overcome with a rush of wanting to finish up the stuff I'm writing that's still due so I can feel less guilty about jumping straight into my ficathons. Because, AWESOME, SERIOUSLY.
[office] shoot me now
The Office is distracting me. [info]talumin is currently rewatching what we have of the U.S. series on DVD, and not only is it an all too convenient excuse to not be writing, but that (combined with the recent awesomeness of Subtle Sexuality) is also giving me inconveniently timed re-flaily Ryan/Kelly (and B.J./Mindy) feelings. I had to try really hard to restrain myself from requesting The Office RPF for [info]yuletide again this year, even though a) it's already one of my requests for [info]prettylightsfic, and b) I requested it for last year's [info]yuletide, and received not one but two awesome fics. (Which are totally to blame for me wanting to ask for it again - they were perfect, and I want more of that.)

I'm also trying to ignore a Ryan/Kelly plot bunny that bit me, hard, in favour of finishing up stuff I actually have to do. (Not that I'm not going to write it, just ... later. Along with any potential quest-y Disney RPF fics involving dragons.) I'm not sure if it's helpful or not that what I thought was a simple idea has ballooned into something ridiculously long and involved, but at least that means I won't be tempted to try to quickly dash it off before I finish my other fics.

(Also, okay. You know how I'm completely lazy and tend to name a lot of my fics after song titles? I turned on my iTunes, and the first thing that came on - not the song I'm listening to right now - was the song after which I've named the fic I'm currently supposed to working on. A not-so-subtle hint, perhaps? Fine, fine, I'm writing.)
[misc] t-shirt
It's (roughly) a quarter of the way through November, so, fic check-in time! The only thing I haven't made progress on is my Disney RPF big bang (excluding, of course, my [info]prettylightsfic and [info]yuletide fics, since those assignments haven't been sent out yet). And I've managed to write something every day for [info]wrisomifu; so far, not counting random ficlets, I've written 6256 words, which ... is not extraordinary, but considering I was majorly blocked on one particular fic for most of that time, it's not horrible.

Happy upcoming birthdays! [info]summerstorm and [info]gigglemonster, I hope you guys have awesome days. I am super busy this month, so I can't guarantee I'll actually be able to write anything, but if you wanted to leave a prompt or whatever, I'll definitely see what I can do (even if it's just incorporating something into an existing fic).

Also, [info]summerstorm, I'm still working on your Fall Fandom Free-For-All fic; I'd hoped to have it finished already, before I got backed up on other deadlines, but it's coming, hopefully soon :)

If anyone was thinking about signing up for [info]prettylightsfic but hasn't done so already, you might still be able to sneak in under the wire; the sign up post is here. Also, [info]apocabigbang still needs artists, vidders, and mixers; you can sign up to do that here until November 9th.

Fall Fandom Free-For-All

1504 / 5000

Oh, Alex and Justin, I missed writing you two so much! It feels like I haven't written in this fandom in forever (probably because I spent the past ten days freaking out about my [info]spook_me fic, ugh, do you have any idea HOW FREAKING GLAD I am that's finally finished?), and I almost forgot how much I love it. And how easy it is, OMG, I never again want to have such a hard time writing a fic, ever! And this fic is so much fun - there's banter, and wacky magical hijinks, and makeouts (probably), and all the things I love most. (No Max, so far, but sometimes that can't be helped - I tried really hard to fit him into my [info]apocabigbang outline, but mostly only managed to have him be present and not really a focus in a couple of scenes.)

Also, this fic will probably end up being longer than 5000 words, because I suck hard when it comes to reasonable estimates of my Wizards Of Waverly Place fics. (Other fandoms, I can generally manage, but I tend to wildly undershoot with my guesses in this one.)

Why isn't writing this much fun, always?

Spook Me

HA, TAKE THAT, FIC! It's finally finished, and will be posted in a minute. And I totally credit my big bang for making that possible - I took the last couple of days off to start working on that, and being able to write something else made me realise that this fic was not the huge, all-encompassing roadblock I imagined it to be. Which means [info]apocabigbang is now awesome in that it a) EXISTS, b) features a teenage (ex?) cheerleader vampire slayer, and c) fixed my Halloween fic! And ... I maybe even like this fic again, I don't know. But I don't hate it, and it's done, so that's a huge win.

So, one fic down, six to go.

(Also, while my mood theme says 'relieved,' it is actually a picture of 'secretly disappointed I can't nail my hot sister.' Totally appropriate for everything I talk about ever, y/y?)

Awesome Ficathons, Redux:

[info]prettylightsfic is still open for sign ups until November 6th. If you can't sign up with the requirements currently in place, comment at the exemption post and you might still get to play.

[info]apocabigbang is in need of more artists/vidders/mixers; if you're willing to create art, graphics, a vid, or a fanmix for someone else's fic, please considering signing up. Rules are here, and sign ups are open until November 9th.

[info]yuletide sign ups just went live, and are open until November 12th. There are literally thousands of small fandoms to choose from, and it's definitely a fannish highlight of my year.

Not only did I plot my Wizards Of Waverly Place [info]apocabigbang fic, but I actually started writing it:

Alex the Vampire Slayer

694 / 10000

Take that, writing! In less exciting news, apparently my Halloween fic has become exactly like a chore in my mind; like, it's something that isn't particularly difficult, and can even be fun, but I dread doing it, anyway. But at least it's specific to that fic, and not writing in general, given that it's ficathon season and I just signed up for two big bangs.

Now I'm off to narrow down the list of fandoms I want to write for [info]yuletide, post my dear author letters, and maybe even sleep, if I can manage it.

My Alex the Vampire Slayer [info]apocabigbang fic is plotted, yay! It will ... probably end up being significantly longer than the 10,000 word minimum, but that's okay; I still have three months to write it, after all. And I'm totally excited about it, which is awesome. Now if only the Disney RPF fic would come as easily.

In other news, Greek had its mid-season finale last night, and I'm going to miss it so much. But, thoughts on the episode:

Greek )

And now we have to wait until January for new episodes, which sucks. (Though chances I'll rewatch the series before then are probably high, ngl.)

I hate this fic, god, why is it still not finished? Oh, right, because I procrastinated like crazy yesterday. I did, at least, manage to make some progress:

Spook Me

3431 / 5000

I don't know, seriously. It's not like writing it is actually that hard, when I can make myself sit down and do it, it's just that I'm really reluctant to even do that much. And I can't quite bring myself to work on anything significant that's not this fic, either, because this one is already overdue. Ugh. Basically, all of this has completely destroyed any sense of perspective I may have had, so I really have no idea whether the story is ridiculous and awesome, or ridiculous and crap. Whatever, I'm going to finish it, and then I'm going to post it, and maybe in six months or so I may actually be able to bring myself to look at it again.
[misc] t-shirt
Wow, I am awesome at procrastinating. So far, in the past couple of days I've signed up for [info]prettylightsfic, written my Dear Author letter, started compiling my [info]yuletide requests and letter, put together word count meters for half a dozen fics that don't need them because they're currently sitting at a grand total of nothing, and written a ficlet that's completely unrelated to anything else I'm supposed to be doing. And, okay, I did manage to write another few hundred words of my [info]spook_me fic, but the way it's going right now, I'm pretty much just hoping that people don't hate it.

I also tried to sleep, but obviously that didn't work out so well for me, since I'm still awake.

(But, apparently, last night the night before last I dreamed that my Disney RPF [info]apocabigbang fic should be a Sliders AU. And that they should slide to a post-apocalyptic reality or something. And I woke up pretty firmly convinced that this was an actual thought I'd had while awake, and was therefore something that was actually awesome, instead of dream awesome, until I realised that, nope. In my dream, though, it was the best idea ever. And now I kind of want to watch Sliders. Specifically, I want to watch the pilot, but I do have a random season three episode that, for some reason, was included as a bonus feature on my Earth 2 DVDs. So maybe I'll watch that.)
[greek] evan/casey
Unlike large swathes of my friends list, I'm not doing NaNoWriMo this year (good luck to those who are!), but I am doing [info]wrisomifu, in which I am going to make an attempt to work on (and possibly finish) at least a couple of the fics I'm supposed to be writing. So, November is still a writing month, just ... not writing from scratch. Anyway, to that end, I thought I'd compile a list of stuff I wanted to work on, which may or may not actually help me do that. Now with bonus progress meters!

Stuff With Concrete Deadlines Before The End Of The Year )

Longer Stuff That's Not Due Until Next Year, Or With Deadlines I Totally Made Up )

Plus assorted fics from the movie title meme, [info]omgjustinalex, and stuff I might actually want to write for fun. And As You Like It, which is probably not going to be written this month, but maybe in December.

[btvs] drunk
18 fics this month, about 34,000 words, which is pretty good. Even though I still haven't finished my [info]spook_me fic. Or To Wish Impossible Things.

And She Was (Brothers & Sisters - Rebecca - PG-13 - 5275 words) Justin discovers a time capsule video Rebecca made in high school. Set during early season two.

The Trick Is To Keep Breathing (Battlestar Galactica - Crashdown/Boomer - NC-17 - 950 words) "I'm not a Cylon." She says it the way she might have said I'm flying CAP tomorrow, like it's nothing of great importance. Spoilers up to episode 1:8 - Flesh And Bone, including deleted scenes.

Depth Perception (The Pursuit Of Happiness Remix) (Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Xander/Buffy - PG - 330 words) Even if it's not the Bronze, she can close her eyes, and pretend. A remix of Misery And Happiness by [info]allfireburns.

Half Life (The Death Or Something Like It Remix) (Dead Like Me - Mason/George - PG - 200 words) It's a little bit broken. A remix of What It All Comes Down To by [info]ineffort.

Starches And Other Inappropriate Temptations (The Slightly More British Remix) (Dollhouse - Dominic/Adelle - PG-13 - 250 words) She learned to read him long ago. A remix of Tangerines by [info]duh_i_read. Spoilers up to episode 1:7 - Echoes; vague allusions to the rest of season one.

They Sold You On Their Way (Bridezilla Remix) (Heroes - D.L./Niki - PG - 250 words) It's an old superstition, but good luck can't possibly hurt. A remix of Part Of The Job by [info]lotus0kid.

Bad Medicine Is What I Need (Star Trek - McCoy/Uhura - PG-13 - 2278 words) Uhura is absolutely brilliant ... at xenolinguistics. Her mandatory medical coursework, on the other hand, could use some help. Thankfully, McCoy has gallantly volunteered to tutor her.

À Ma Soeur (Wizards Of Waverly Place - Justin/Alex - NC-17 - 3562 words) Justin and Alex watch a movie. (That he doesn't enjoy. At all.)

Are Written On The Subway Walls (Wizards Of Waverly Place - Justin/Alex - NC-17 - 1952 words) Justin and Alex sneak out. Or at least, they try to.

Burn Your Life Down (Cities In Dust Remix) (Wizards Of Waverly Place - Justin/Alex - PG-13 - 500 words) She's always been good at ignoring danger signs. A remix of In Fire, In Ice by [info]moirariordan.

Don't Confess (Wizards Of Waverly Place - Justin/Alex - NC-17 - 5132 words) Alex and Justin are forced to tutor Max. It doesn't exactly go smoothly. Spoilers up to episode 2:22 - My Tutor, Tutor.

In Plain Sight (Wizards Of Waverly Place - Justin/Alex - PG-13 - 3889 words) Justin's favourite things from his room are sometimes more interesting than Alex expects. Spoilers up to episode 2:23 - Paint By Committee.

Springs Eternal (The Redux Remix) (Wizards Of Waverly Place - Justin/Alex - PG-13 - 500 words) A (very) fractured fairy tale. A remix of Fragmented by [info]applepips16. Spoilers up to the movie.

The Shake Up (Wizards Of Waverly Place - Justin/Alex - R - 6064 words) There's still something going on with Professor Dinklemeyer, and Alex is determined to get to the bottom of it. Justin still isn't sure he's on board. Spoilers up to episode 1:14 - Wizard School (Part Two). Sequel to The Night Moves.

Exactly Not Like A Fairytale (Ever After Remix) (Supernatural/The O.C. - Dean/Taylor - PG-13 - 500 words) Taylor's always had a habit of falling for boys who are nice to her. A remix of Exactly Not Like A Fairytale by [info]ineffort.

(Nobody Ever Made Me) Crazy Like This (Disney RPF - David Henrie/Selena Gomez - PG-13 - 756 words) She's still finding it a little difficult to concentrate. Or to speak. Thinking is mostly out of the question, too.

Hey, This Bottle Has Poison In It (Reading Can Save Lives) (Disney RPF - David Henrie/Selena Gomez - PG-13 - 658 words) Their first day back on set, everything is different, and nothing is.

Meet Me In Puerto Rico (Disney RPF - David Henrie/Selena Gomez - PG-13 - 1334 words) She has no idea where the line even is any more.

Also, I had a very fun Halloween. [info]talumin bought candy for trick-or-treaters, even though we don't really do that here, and we had a Halloween episode marathon - we watched Two Guys, A Girl, And A Pizza Place; Miss Match; How I Met Your Mother; Buffy the Vampire Slayer; The Office; Dark Angel; Grosse Pointe; Angel; and Wizards Of Waverly Place. And I dressed up as Pyjama Girl, which, shut up, is totally a real costume.

Now, um, I might actually write fic? Or something?
30th Oct, 2009 07:22 pm - Stepping out in my deadly red shoes
[office] like a fairy tale
Ugh, how am I so behind on everything? I swear, two weeks ago I was writing like crazy and had no real commitments, then I slow down just a tiny bit, and suddenly I have this whole mess of stuff that needs to be finished. I blame this Halloween fic, WHY AREN'T YOU FINISHED ALREADY?

Help me procrastinate relax! Meme ganked from [info]pearl_o:

Give me one of my own stories, and a timestamp sometime in the future after the end of the story, or sometime in the past before the story started, and I'll write you at least a hundred words of what happened then, whether it's five minutes before the story started or ten years in the future.

I'll also accept requests for stuff that happened off screen during the course of a story :)

Also, sign ups for [info]prettylightsfic are now open, which I'm totally excited about. Minimum word count is only 750 words, so if you're into RPF, you should go check it out; two of your requests need to be from a list of nominated fandoms, but the other two can be from anything you like, as long as it's a scripted television show or movie (and crossover requests are allowed). If you'd like to participate, but can't meet the fandom requirements, you can comment at the exemption post, and you may still be able to sign up if there are people to match you with.

I've almost narrowed down the fandoms I want to write/request; right now, I think I'm going to ask for The Office (B.J./Mindy! ♥), Wizards Of Waverly Place, Princess Protection Program, and ... maybe Glee, IDK. Anyway, you should all go there and request some sort of Disney RPF, like maybe David/Selena, or Demi/Selena, or something else that's awesome - High School Musical is even one of the official fandoms. Or, you know. You could request some other kind of RPF, if that's not your thing. But do consider signing up!

Now, I'm going to try to watch Subtle Sexuality from my corner of the world. (THIS IS SOMETHING I NEED IN MY LIFE, OMG.) ETA: No luck! I have tried, like, everything. And you guys, this is something that has Ryan and Kelly, together, in the same room, maybe even interacting! Clearly, I need to watch it. So if anybody could possibly hook me up, I'd probably love you forever.

(Seriously, I don't get why they need to make their webisodes U.S. only. I mean, aired episodes, sure, but web-only content? What the fuck is the point of that?)
[glee] cheerios
Very minor friends list trim - mostly people who haven't updated in a while, or who never friended me back and I don't read any more, etc. If you think I cut you in error, or you want to be added back, just let me know.

Am frantically working on my [info]spook_me fic, which is up to 2500 words but still unfinished, and was technically due yesterday. At least I'm actually able to write it now, though, so that's good. It might be finished by the end of the day? I'm watching TV intermittently to reward myself, and am mostly caught up on stuff I watch.

Okay, yeah, this is a procrastination post, whatever. I'll get back to writing now.

And just so this post isn't completely useless, have some cute girls being hot and adorable, Jane Lynch being badass, and Nick Jonas being ridiculous.

Gifs! )

(Also, while I'm tangentially on the subject, does anyone want to recommend me some DCOMs? I've seen most of the ones that particularly interest me, I think, but I could always use more fluffy Disney entertainment.)
[bsg] call me boomer
Happy birthday, [info]areasontofight! I hope you had an awesome day. If you'd like a request ficlet of some sort, you know the drill.

I think I'm going to go with Alex the Vampire Slayer for my Wizards Of Waverly Place [info]apocabigbang, mostly because that's what I have a solid idea for right now. Which is exciting, bcause I think it's going to be really fun.

Speaking of fun stuff: Awesome Ficathons You Should Totally Be Participating In.

1) [info]apocabigbang is open for sign ups until November 3rd, so if you've ever wanted to write a 10,000 word + fic about the end of the world, in any fandom (and, really, who hasn't?), or if you like making art, graphics, or fanmixes, you should go sign up.

The rules post is here, writer sign ups are here, artist sign ups are here.

2) The Fall Fandom Free-For-All is still open until November 18th. Post a wish list of up to ten things you always wished someone would make for you, and see what you can give other people in return!

The main post is here, and my wish list is here. If you post a wish list, link me to it!

3) [info]prettylightsfic is polling on potential fandoms until October 26th, and sign ups run from October 27th until November 6th. It's a multifandom RPF (actor fic) exchange that's always a lot of fun, so if you're thinking about participating, go vote in the poll here. (And put in a good word for Disney RPF as a write-in fandom!)

Now, back to seeing whether I can finish To Wish Impossible Things before the end of the month. It's possible, right?
[wowp] justin/alex
*sigh*

I should be working on my [info]spook_me fic. Or my Fall Fandom Free-For-All fic. Or fic for [info]omgjustinalex, or those movie title prompt fics, or even planning my [info]apocabigbang fics. But, no. Instead, my brain is like, "hey, let's work on To Wish Impossible Things." So that's what I'm doing.

(And by 'working on the fic,' I mean I've typed up about 500 more words, but it's better than nothing. And it's a lot easier than anything else I'm supposed to be doing, right now.)
22nd Oct, 2009 11:57 pm - Just wreck it, you insured the thing
[oth] cheerleaders
Ack, why can I not write? I'm trying to finish my [info]spook_me David/Selena fic, and I love the premise, like, a lot, but actually getting it down is like pulling teeth. Yesterday I wrote 200 words! This was an improvement over the last four days. God, why is it hard?

Far more awesomely: [info]prettylightsfic is running again this year! Besides [info]yuletide, it looks like this may be the only holiday fic exchange I participate in this year (unless something new and awesome suddenly pops up - I would not say no to something Disney-themed, or even Glee), so I'm very excited. The poll to gauge interest in fandoms is up now, so if you have any interest in a multifandom RPF exchange, you should totally consider signing up, and go vote! And, I'm just saying - if you really love me (and are genuinely interested in participating), and wanted to suggest Disney RPF as a write-in fandom? I would totally not be opposed to that.

Since I have no new fic to offer (I'm still working on those meme prompt fics, I swear), have some episode reactions:

Glee )

One Tree Hill )

The last episode of Greek wasn't my favourite, but Ashleigh is adorable. As always. I'm kind of loving Eastwick (even though I'm not fully caught up yet), which I only really started watching because I love Jaime Ray Newman and Rebecca Romijn, but it's awesomely cracky and kind of enchanting. And I'm watching Flash Forward, mostly at [info]talumin's behest, but the only things I really care about are a) Janis, b) John Cho, and c) WHAT WAS UP WITH THE RANDOM FREAKING WALLABY? Um.

ETA: Haha, this window has been open so long that I managed to watch The Plan before I finished posting! Thinky thoughts to come, possibly?

Yeah, I do have other stuff I should be working on, but I'm feeling whimsical, so, have a fic meme! I can't guarantee I will actually write these, but, I'll try, especially if they have anything to do with Disney wizards. Or people who play them on TV.

(Being monofannish - ish - is weird. I'm so not used to this.)

So, I just read over the rules for [info]spook_me again (which is usually a good idea, because apparently I am a huge, reading comprehension-impaired dork), and RPF is totally allowed. So, somehow the last time I read them, I inserted a 'not' where there wasn't one? Whatever, this is good news, EVEN THOUGH I HAD JUST (FINALLY) FIGURED OUT HOW TO WORK ONE OF MY PROMPTS INTO A WOWP FIC, because now I can use my original idea after all? Or maybe write both? Either way, it's good, because I know I can definitely finish the ficathon now. (Me and non-reciprocal ficathons are such bad ideas sometimes, I start to feel like 'non-reciprocal' means 'optional,' and flake out way more than I should. But this one I am determined to complete!)

So, The Shake Up is up to 2000 words, and ...

It's not like I ever intended it to be particularly angsty (mostly, it's just not my default mode), but I'm a little concerned that it's becoming humourous bordering on cracky. Apparently, this is what my version of Justin having a mental breakdown looks like?

(I think I've discovered the secret, though. If you have Justin and Alex both freaking out, or if you have one of them freaking out without input from the other, it tends towards angst. But if you have one of them freaking out while the other is apparently completely unaffected, it becomes a comedy. It's all about misdirection; instead of focusing on the fact that Justin is actually semi-seriously freaking out, the story starts being about the juxtaposition of his freak out vs Alex's non freak out, which is a whole different narrative that conveniently sidesteps the angst.)

When I was doing my round up of stuff I should be working on, I completely forgot about [info]spook_me, which. I will probably still do? Inconveniently, my prompts totally inspired me to write David/Selena RPF, which is not allowed. But I may yet be inspired to write Wizards of Waverly Place fic, which would be good. (Halloween-themed WOWP fic ideas, anyone? ;) )

It's awesome. Do it. It runs until October 11th, and I'll have to try to write something for it before then. (Last time, I ended up writing Legend of the Seeker fic, which was a lot of fun.)

It's cold here. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be spring. And our heater is broken, boo.
