Vid question
I'm currently working on a vid in a literally nonexistent fandom, so it's not like anyone is even going to notice if I do it wrong, let alone care, but, that aside:
I know that, like in fic, POV is an important choice, even if it isn't a huge part of the vid, and that it's important to have some sense of the POV a vid is from. But in my vid - well, it's not that it has no POV, it's just that ... ah, hell, it has no POV. I mean, sort of. I know, thematically, broadly, the POV of the vid. It's just that, when I break it down into scenes and shots and verses and lyrics, the POV kinda goes poof. Like, lyrically, some sections are able to remain in the POV I want, but others only make sense in the opposing POV (and sometimes both POVs occur within the same verse). And some of it (it's a shippy vid) is just in "their" POV - like, the anthropomorphic viewpoint of the relationship, I guess. And I was just wondering, how big a problem is this? Does every vid need to have a POV? Does that POV need to remain consistent (or to change at logical intervals, and to make it clear that a change has occurred)? Does the POV need to be that of a character, or observer, or can it be less literal and more of a figurative or thematic viewpoint? How much (in a song that's more about music than lyrics) are people really going to be paying attention and noticing unclear or undefined POVs? And if nobody's going to see the vid, is it more important to be technically correct or to make something I love, regardless of whether it would have others cringing at the flagrant disregard of basic vidding rules? ;)
Vidders (and vid watchers) on my flist - thoughts?

Unpopular pairings (or, Come play with me!)
We all have them, right? Those pairings we love, or maybe are just a little interested in, but which - for whatever reason - simply aren't popular. Maybe it interferes with a fandom's OTP, maybe it features one or more minor characters, maybe it's a het pairing in a primarily slash fandom (or vice versa). Maybe it's completely cracktastic - the two characters have never actually met in fandom, or there's no good reason to ship them other than just because. Or maybe the pairing is actually canon, but is pretty much loathed (or simply ignored) by fandom in general. And sometimes you just wish someone would come along and say, "Hey, I can write that for you!"
Well, why don't we give it a shot? Comment here with any or all of your favourite unpopular pairings, in any fandom you like, and see if maybe there's somebody out there who will write it. Check out other peoples' wish lists, and if there's a fandom you're familiar with, and a pairing you're not completely opposed to, have a go at it. It can be comment!fic, a snippet, whatever - but come give it a shot, try something new, and help spread the love of unconventional pairings.
[What qualifies as an unpopular pairing? As a general rule, if you couldn't compile a rec list without a) including every fic you've ever read, or b) at all, it probably belongs here.]
Fandoms currently represented: Farscape, Firefly, Gilmore Girls, Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill, Roswell, Sports Night, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG-1, The West Wing, Veronica Mars, Wonderfalls.

You know what's an excellent remedy for reading one too many Josh/Donna fics where Amy's character is bashed almost beyond recognition? Reading - and then writing - some Amy/Donna.
In particular, I should recommend a couple of fics by
michellek: The Greatest Starbucks Ever, and Sorts of Things, There are These, which is Amy/Connie. Also, The Elizabeth Blackwell Society, by
callalillykaye, is a fantastic Amy gen fic; it's a crossover with Grey's Anatomy, Amy and Addison being awesome together, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

The Last Man
So ... SGA fandom. Honestly, I've hit that point where I've started to waver on it; I'm still writing fic (I've still got my entries for the
ronon_love ficathon and
sga_genficathon due, as well as
sg_rarepairings prompt battle, though I'm leaning more towards SG-1 and crossover prompts on that one), and I'll continue to watch, but my enthusiasm is winding down now that that first flush of new fandom love is gone. Which is fine; I have plenty of fandoms to keep me occupied, and it's not like I ever really leave a fandom, anyway.
( Season four finale thoughts )
On the brighter side, I'm currently watching The West Wing from the beginning, which I haven't done since it was, like, on TV (and still haven't seen at least the last half of the series), and it's making me ridiculously happy. Like, I love these people. I love this show! And it's just ... yes. And JOSH/DONNA!!!, because I shipped them way before I knew what the hell shipping was, or that you were allowed to do it to characters who weren't (obviously) going to end up together, and way before I encountered this great huge thing called fandom, and now that I'm in fandom, and watching this show, I just ... can't articulate. Fittingly, or not. So very, very happy.

Wormholes, stable and unstable
So, I'm pretty sure I know what story I'll be remixing for
remixredux08, and I'm very excited about it. There are still a few fics I've yet to read, but my mind keeps returning to this particular one, and I'm getting actual (as opposed to potential) ideas in my head, and I like them a lot. So it's pretty much a done deal, even if I'm probably still going to read the others for completeness' sake.
Also, I think my iTunes agrees, if the current music choice is anything to go by ;)
I watched Ark Of Truth after (finally) finishing SG-1, and ( spoilery comments ) I really, really must write Unending tags.
In related news, today is the last day to write LeapGate fic; there are so many prompts I want to write for, which may be why I've decided to forgo sleep. There are some excellent fics there, too, so you should check them out.

Remix 2008
I am so very pleased with my
remixredux08 assignment, which gave me not one but two of my top three fandoms. I'm still going through my remixee's stories, but I've narrowed it down to a handful of potential fics. Now if I can just finish my BtVS pinch hit (which is so close to being done), I can get started on Remix and everything else on my to-do list.
To my remixer:
Have fun! I didn't specify a safe story, so feel free to remix anything you want. Go wild, honestly - take risks, do whatever you like with it, and don't feel like you have to be faithful to the original. I'm easy on the pairing thing; if you want to remove one or focus on another (whether it's explicitly in the original or not), that's fine.
All my fics are linked here and posted at
amidalashari, tagged by fandom, pairing, and character. There are a hundred-odd stories in fourteen fifteen fandoms plus crossovers, so at least there's lots of variety.
Normal Again has been previously remixed, but not as part of an organised ficathon. And Girls Not In Bars (Girls In Bars Remix) is a remix, sort of, but it's a remix of one of my own fics, so technically I guess it should still be eligible. I have a couple of WIPs (From Dusk 'Til Dawn and As You Like It); What Goes Down is complete, so it's fair game, though I'm not sure that anyone really wants to remix a series.
Whatever you choose to remix, I really can't wait to read it!

February fic roundup
Five fics posted this month, Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.
Stargate Atlantis
Glimpses Of A Private War (Bates/Teyla - PG - 244 words) If he hadn't seen her running for her life a minute ago, he'd almost think it hadn't happened.
Kissing A Fool (John/Teyla - PG-13 - 2945 words) John and Teyla are married off world (maybe).
Stargate SG-1
Break It Down (Cameron/Vala - NC-17 - 1241 words) Cameron figures he's got two options; he can run away, and let her know she's won, or he can try to regain control of the situation. Spoilers up to episode 9:19 - Crusade.
Protect And Serve (Barrett/Sam - PG-13 - 614 words) They're already too close, pressed against the side of the building, and his touch makes her jump.
White Chocolate Space Egg (Daniel, Teal'c - PG - 304 words) "You seemed to imply that the Easter Bunny is not real." Missing scene of sorts for episode 9:20 - Camelot.

Badfic summary meme
Meme, from everywhere:
The thing is, when people look for stories, they always make it sound like badfic. Now, often that's because it really is badfic, but sometimes it's good and they just suck at describing the story.
So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to summarize badly any one (or more!) of my stories and I'll try to guess which it is. You could even pretend you don't remember the pairing or fandom to make it harder to guess.
All my fic is posted at
amidalashari; you can browse the tags or check out my fic index if you're looking for something more specific.
